Levaquin Tendon Rupture

Texas Man Files Lawsuit of Levaquin Tendon Injury

Texas resident, Kenneth Adams, has filed a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical Inc. claiming that he suffered permanent tendon injury in his elbow as a result of taking the company’s prescription antibiotic Levaquin. Levaquin has been linked to serious tendon injuries including tendinitis and tendon rupture. The lawsuit claims that the defendant misrepresented, concealed, and failed to disclose important safety information related to the use of Levaquin. After recieveing hundreds of complaints about tendon injuries following the use of Levaquin, the U.S. Food and Drug Administartion (FDA) required Ortho-McNeil to include the infamous “black box” waning on the label of Levaquin. Levaquin Linked to Achilles Tendon Rupture

The Achilles tendon is located at the foot just above the head. The Achilles tendon attaches the calf muscle to the heel of the foot. The Achilles tendon is a one of the most important tendons in the body, as it is serves a vital role in walking, running, and jumping. A torn or ruptured Achilles tendon is said to be one of the most painful and severely debilitating tendon injuries that an individual can suffer. Causes of an Achilles Tendon Rupture As people grow older their tendons become less elastic due to a decrease in the blood supplied to the tendon. The elasticity a tendon has the greater the chance is of a tendon rupturing. Older people are generally at a higher risk of an Achilles tendon rupture than younger more athletic individuals. People who are not well conditioned who attempt strenuous physical activity are often at a greater risk of suffering a tendon rupture. Landing on your feet from a jump or fall can also cause an Achilles tendon rupture. The sudden force to the sole of the foot upward can cause the Achilles tendon to snap. The use of certain types of antibiotic medications, like Levaquin have been linked to increased chance of Achilles tendon rupture.
